According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarter Abuja, DCP Frank MBA, the remains of a 55 year woman identified as Janet Nnenna Ogbonnaya from Ozuitem in Bende L.G.A of Abia state has been discovered in a septic tank at a residence in Wumba District, Lokogoma Abuja. The residence is said to have belonged to Johnson Emmanuel, one of the trio and mastermind of the heinous act, but had been sold off in a bid to cover his tracks. The 38 year old, Johnson Emmanuel from Isiekenesi, Ideato L.G.A of Imo state had fled from Abuja back to his hometown in an effort to lie low but the long arms of the law caught up with him.
Efforts and thorough investigations by men of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigerian Police Force, in response to reports filed by Chinedu Ogbonnaya (son of the deceased widow) led to the arrest of Johnson Emmanuel and his two other brothers, Gideon Emmanuel (31) and Success Emmanuel (27) in their hometown, miles away from where the crime was perpetrated.
According to the son of the deceased, his mother was kidnapped and a ransom fee of five million Naira was demanded by the kidnappers in exchange for her. However, investigations have revealed that the victim who was lured to the Wumba residence of the mastermind, Johnson Emmanuel, who happened to be her Facebook friend, was drugged and later murdered. Thereafter, her killer went further to demand ransom from her family.
A Toyota Highlander Jeep belonging to the deceased has been recovered from a Mechanic workshop in Apo where it had been repainted into a different colour. The prime suspect, Johnson Emmanuel, had also forged documents for the vehicle transferring its ownership to himself.
The body of late Mrs Janet Ogbonnaya which was exhumed from a septic tank on the 4th of June, 2020, by a delegation of pathologists and men of the IRT led by the suspects has been deposited at the University Teaching Hospital Gwagwalada, Abuja for forensic analysis.
In his commendation to the members of the IRT, the Inspector General of Police, IGP M. A Adamu, NPM, mni affirmed that law breakers in the country will not escape the law as they will be apprehended and prosecuted. He, however, reiterated that citizens should be security conscious and report any suspicious activity within and around their environment to the nearest Police Station.
